Privacy policy
I respect the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and this policy explains how we collect and treat any information you give me. You won’t find any complicated legal terms or long passages of unreadable text. I have no desire to trick you into agreeing to something you might later regret.
My policy covers

How I collect information
What information we hold
Where I store your information
What I use your information for
Who’s responsible for your information
Who has access to information about you

Why I value your privacy
I value your privacy as much as I do my own, so I'm committed to keeping your personal and business information safe. I ask for only the bare minimum from my clients. I’ll never use your personal information for any reason other than why you gave it, and I’ll never give anyone access to it unless we’re forced to by law.
How I collect information
I ask for contact information including your name, email address, and phone number, on my website so that I can reply to your enquiry.
I ask for your email address when you sign up for my newsletter.
I doesn’t use cookies which were designed to track the websites you visit. I don’t use native social media ‘like’ or ‘sharing’ buttons which also build profiles of your internet activity.
Occasionally, I might receive your contact information from one of our partners. If I do, I protect it in exactly the same way as if you give it to me directly.
I want to process as little personal information as possible when you use our website. That's why I've chosen Fathom Analytics for my website analytics, which doesn't use cookies and complies with the GDPR, ePrivacy (including PECR), COPPA and CCPA. Using this privacy-friendly website analytics software, your IP address is only briefly processed, and I (running this website) have no way of identifying you. As per the CCPA, your personal information is de-identified. You can read more about this on Fathom Analytics' website.
The purpose of us using this software is to understand our website traffic in the most privacy-friendly way possible so that we can continually improve our website and business. The lawful basis as per the GDPR is "Article 6(1)(f); where our legitimate interests are to improve our website and business continually." As per the explanation, no personal data is stored over time.
What information I store
When you contact me by email or through my website, I store your name and email address, plus your phone number and the company you work for, if you’ve given them to me.
If you sign up for my newsletter, I store your email address.
Where I store your information
If you sign up for a newsletter, we store your email address in MailerLite, which is the marketing platform I prefer.
If we do business, I store your information in FreeAgent, my accounts software.
How I use your information
I occasionally use your contact information to send you details of my services. When I do, you have the option to unsubscribe from these communications and I won’t send them to you again. I might also email or phone you about my services, but if you tell me not to, I won’t get in touch again. I will use your information to send you invoices, statements, or reminders.
Who’s responsible for your information
Mike Harrison (me!) is responsible for the security of your information. You can contact me by email at mike@mikeharrisondesign.com if you have concerns about the information I store.
Who has access to information about you
When I store information in my own systems, only I have access.
The steps I take to keep your information private
Where I store your information in third-party services, I restrict access only to people who need it. I store passwords in NordPass, an encrypted password manager, use a different, randomly generated password for each service, and never use the same password twice. The computers I use are all encrypted and protected by a passcode. These computers ask for authentication whenever they’re started or after 20 minutes of inactivity. My mobile device is also protected by facial recognition.
How to complain
I take complaints very seriously. If you’ve any reason to complain about the ways we handle your privacy, please contact Mike Harrison (me) by email at mike@mikeharrisondesign.com.
